This One Sounds Like a Winner
Like a lot of “foodies,” I’ve been a huge fan of the Food Network since the first episode aired. I’ve also kept two watchful eyes on the Cooking Channel (especially when they air back to back to back Good Eats!). I love when one of these channels airs exciting new programs – ESPECIALLY when they’re centered around cooking as opposed to eating or competing. While the “travel/eat” and “compete/eat” shows are fun, I’m personally more into shows like the classics:
- Good Eats
- 30 Minute Meals
- Emeril Live
- Barefoot Contessa
So I get extra excited when cooking shows come to these great networks. One such show airs tonight: How to Live to 100. This one sounds like a show a lot of us are going to love. Apparently this series will feature cooking with a little “venturing out” on the side.
From the Cooking Channel:
Detroit-born Chef Jason Wrobel dishes up a sublime fusion of food and humor as host of the new Cooking Channel special, How To Live To 100. Known as the “King of Superfoods,” which are powerful ingredients proven to increase your longevity, Jason turns up the heat and whips them up into culinary masterpieces. (Learn more about Jason Wrobel on the Cooking Channel.)
The premiere episode (“Goin’ Back to Cauli”) airs tonight (1/3/14) at 9:00 PM/8:00 C.
Episode Description: On his quest to unlock the power of the cauliflower, Jason learns how this superfood contains important anti-oxidants and fights the buildup of toxins and inflammation in our body – all to keep illnesses at bay and help us live to 100. Jason shows just how scrumptious cauliflower can be with enticing dishes like Buffalo Cauliflower “Wings” and Cauliflower Lentil Tacos. And he amps up the spicy with a visit to Atlanta restaurant, Bhojanic, where he and chef Archna Becker whip up Alu Gobhi, a classic Indian dish. – From the Cooking Channel
A Few of the Recipes from this Episode:
- Cauliflower Bisque
- Cheesy Cauliflower “Popcorn”
- Buffalo-Style Cauliflower with Cashew-Dill Dipping Sauce
Click here for these recipes as well others from the episode and don’t forget to tune in. I can’t wait to learn just how healthy a favorite vegetable (cauliflower) is and I’m really excited about the recipes. Cheesy Cauliflower Popcorn? YUM!
The second episode of How to Live to 100 (Attack of the Scrumptious Tomato) will air on Friday, January 10 at 9:00pm ET / 6:00pm PT
Episode Description: Jason finds that tomatoes are the perfect superfood when it comes to eating for stronger bones and healthier skin. As an added bonus, the fiber in this magical fruit will do wonders for the waistline. With recipes like Peruvian Quinoa-Stuffed Tomatoes, Dessert Crepes with Strawberry Tomato Sauce, and Smoked Tomato Tacos that he creates with Jeffrey Gardner at Alma Cocina restaurant, Jason dishes out delicious recipes for a healthier lifestyle.
The tomato recipes (Smoked Tomato Tacos… yes, please) sound great, too. I’m really excited about this series and look forward to tonight’s premiere.
